VDM presents two new alloys at NACE International's 69th Annual Conference

During this year’s NACE International's Annual Conference and Exposition, CORROSION 2014, taking place March 9 to 13, VDM, one of the world’s leading producers of nickel and titanium alloys, high-alloyed special stainless steels and zirconium introduces two new alloys: VDM Alloy 31 Plus® and VDM Alloy 2120 MoN™. Both developments illustrate how planned, purposeful improvements and redesigning still can enhance the performance of established nickel alloys.

Transfer of VDM and AST from Outokumpu to ThyssenKrupp completed

The transfer of VDM and AST from Outokumpu to ThyssenKrupp is now officially completed. The transaction includes the transfer of ThyssenKrupp’s subordinated financial receivable (“loan note”) created as part of the Inoxum transaction to Outokumpu. In exchange, ThyssenKrupp is taking over the companies VDM, AST, and a number of European service centers.

During the past weeks, the Outokumpu VDM hot rolling mill at the Siegen location, Germany, has undergone a thorough overhaul. Two new rolling stands each weighing over 200 tons have been installed in this process.

Outokumpu VDM opens new training center

Outokumpu VDM, a leading manufacturer of corrosion and heat resistant high-performance materials, is investing in its Werdohl location: Today, the company opened its new training center – the “VDM Karriereschmiede” (“Career Forge”) – in the presence of Werdohl’s Mayor Siegfried Griebsch and representatives of the South-Westphalian Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

ThyssenKrupp VDM to operate under the name of ‘Outokumpu VDM’

With the entry in the commercial register of the local court in Iserlohn (Germany) confirmed, ThyssenKrupp VDM GmbH (ThyssenKrupp VDM) will operate under the name of ‘Outokumpu VDM GmbH’ (Outokumpu VDM) from now on. Outokumpu announced the completion of the Inoxum transaction and thus the merger with the former ThyssenKrupp subsidiary, which also included ThyssenKrupp VDM, on 28 December 2012.

ThyssenKrupp VDM puts two new ESR units into operation

ThyssenKrupp VDM continues to invest in its Unna location, Germany. During the past few weeks, the manufacturer of nickel alloys, special stainless steels and semi-finished products in zirconium and titanium has successfully put two new electroslag remelting (ESR) units on-stream. With both the installation and the subsequent start-up phase having gone perfectly smoothly, there are now five ESR units in operation at the Unna melting plant.

ThyssenKrupp VDM awarded approval as a "known consignor"

ThyssenKrupp VDM has been approved by the German Federal Aviation Office as a "known consignor". Without this approval, air cargo consignments will be deemed "insecure" as of 25 March of next year and have to undergo a separate security check before each flight. This can result in higher costs and longer delivery times.
