Dr Helena Alves receives award

During this year’s AMPP Conference (Association for Materials Protection and Performance), Dr Helena Alves, Head of Research and Development, was named the recipient of the Oladis Troconis de Rincón Field Applied Technology Award. The award ceremony took place on 9 April at the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame. Dr Alves was recognised for her ‘commitment to excellence.’ The impact of her work is said to exemplify the highest standards in our industry.

The award is named after Dr Oladis Troconis de Rincón, who was also attending the ceremony and handed over the award. A chemical engineer and expert in the field of corrosion research, she studied at the University of Oklahoma, United States, and earned her doctorate in fundamental and applied electrochemistry from the Universidad de los Andes in Venezuela. She has conducted extensive research in the field of corrosion and corrosion protection, particularly for the oil and petrochemical industries, and has held leadership positions in various international corrosion committees and projects.

In honour of her contributions to science, the Oladis Troconis de Rincón Field Applied Technology Award is named after her and is presented by the AMPP to recognise outstanding achievements in the application of engineering and scientific principles to the protection and preservation of field structures. The award may be presented to individuals, teams or organisations that develop corrosion-resistant materials, material selection, interdisciplinary engineering techniques, cathodic protection, coatings, inhibitors, etc. for the protection of structures and equipment.
