From then on, it will only be possible to directly load air cargo labeled "secure". Companies wishing to send their products as air cargo can have themselves audited by the Federal Aviation Office and thus acquire the status of a "known consignor". A known consignor ensures that air cargo on his company site is sufficiently protected from unauthorized access. The air cargo of a known consignor does not have to undergo any further security inspection and can be transferred directly to any company that possesses the status of a "regulated agent".

At ThyssenKrupp VDM in Werdohl and Altena, only those staff have access to air cargo consignments that have completed the training envisaged for this. "It is important for us that our customers can be served by a provider who meets all the legally demanded air security provisions. We are proud of the fact that we as a known consignor can now securely provide all the services involved in the movement of air cargo consignments," explains Dr Jürgen Olbrich, Chairman of the Management Board of ThyssenKrupp VDM GmbH.

"Thanks to the excellent preparation and the highly motivated staff of the ThyssenKrupp VDM workforce, we were able to draw up and implement a security program tailored to the company in a very short time. This was also verified by the experienced staff of the Federal Aviation Office in the audit arranged at short notice," adds Christian Buchenthal, Managing Director of Lobraco Akademie GmbH that assisted ThyssenKrupp VDM during the planning and implementation of its approval as a known consignor.

ThyssenKrupp VDM based in Werdohl is a company of the Inoxum Group and manufactures high-performance materials, including nickel alloys, special stainless steels and zirconium and titanium mill products. On January 31, 2012, ThyssenKrupp AG announced the combination of Inoxum and Outokumpu, a global stainless steel corporation with its headquarters in Finland. The combination is subject to regulatory approval. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
