For the apprenticeship training schemes starting on August 1, ThyssenKrupp VDM has taken on 32 new apprentices, around 50 percent more than a year earlier.

With an apprenticeship training rate of seven percent, the company has confirmed its role as the leading training company in the Sauerland region. Furthermore, an agreement has been reached with the General Works Council which safeguards the training programs at the individual locations for the next few years.

In connection with the initial training program of the Federal Employment Agency, increased efforts are also being made to help improve the job prospects of young people whose chances of finding apprenticeships are limited. ThyssenKrupp VDM has had good experience with this in the past. Almost all the young people recruited via the program have obtained a job at the company, says Ralf Klose, Chairman of the Works Council of ThyssenKrupp VDM, Werdohl plant. In addition, the company also trains apprentices for sister companies of the ThyssenKrupp Group in the Sauerland. At present a further twelve (from August, 16) young people are undergoing training who will subsequently work for ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Präzisionsband and ThyssenKrupp Automotive Systems.

This high training rate continues the committed training work carried out over recent years and helps reduce youth unemployment in the region, says Marcel Verweinen, Head of HR and Social Affairs. In addition to a team-building introductory week for all new apprentices, the training program at ThyssenKrupp VDM offers further incentives, such as a period abroad. Priority is also given to the teaching of foreign languages and provision of individual support.

ThyssenKrupp VDM still has openings for apprentice industrial clerks. Apprenticeships are available in the Sauerland region (Werdohl/Altena) and also in Unna, Siegen and Essen.
