The abbreviation REFA stands for "Reichsausschuss für Arbeitszeitermittlung" since its foundation in the early 1920s. The purpose of the association to this day is to promote education and science in the fields of work organization, company organization and company development, including adjacent areas. "Further training in the areas of work design, company organization and company development is aimed at maintaining the competitiveness of the company. Especially today, in an ever faster changing world, these pillars have lost nothing of their actuality, but are more in demand than ever in order to be able to help shape processes and thus make the company ready for new challenges".

Over the past five years, a total of 24 employees at VDM Metals have completed further training in REFA methodology. 80 percent have learned the REFA basic training in seminars, 20 percent of the employees have followed this approach in long-term training courses for REFA technicians or REFA engineers as in-service training over a longer period of time. At VDM Metals, the target group and area of application are mainly in production, order centres and industrial engineering.
